Spencer Callaghan

1. What skills will you contribute to the NCF Board?

I am a brand, marketing and communications professional with more than 15 years experience. I feel like I can bring that expertise to the board and help NCF spread the word about its great services and advocate for better internet access in Ottawa. I know the issues well as I help lead CIRA's thought leadership activities on internet access, and I have connections in the Ottawa area and the technology industry that can help.

2. What are the most important functions of NCF for its members?

The most important functions of NCF is to ensure the people of Ottawa, particularly those with low incomes or from marginalized communities, have safe, secure access to the internet and the skills and knowledge to navigate it and succeed. Access to the internet is now the baseline for participation in Canada's economy, without access people are being left behind and missing out on opportunity. NCF's core programs and advocacy provide vital knowledge, access and support to help people in the National Capital region succeed on the internet.

Why do you want to be an NCF director?

As a technology and internet advocate, and resident of Ottawa for most of my life, I feel like NCF is a great combination of my skills, interests and values. I am an advocate for the open internet and believe that access is key to helping our city grow and prosper in a more equitable way. I want to help serve my community and my industry by helping NCF achieve its goals and increase its visibility within our community.
