1. Why do you want to be an NCF director?

The NCF provides a vital service to the community. I would be proud to provide assistance in directing the organization.

2. What are the most important functions of NCF for its members?

  • Provision of affordable, supported, reliable, and secure Internet access
  • Bridging the digital divide through
    • engagement with & support for individuals & community organizations
    • advocacy work with a wide variety of organizations
    • providing assistance to the disadvantaged so they can take advantage of technology
  • Providing educational opportunities in the use of technology
  • Providing opportunities for members to give back to their community by getting involved in the operations of the NCF

3. What skills will you contribute to the NCF Board?

Through the course of my career at Natural Resources Canada, I provided guidance in the provision of IT services to internal and external stakeholders. I helped guide the direction of those services and helped business units & senior management take advantage of the services efficiently and effectively to help their businesses succeed.

I am a firm believer in giving back to the community through volunteer activities, including:

  • Board member for the Ottawa PC Users' Group, the Orleans Photo Club, and the Hyperion Users Group
  • In 2013, I was a technical support volunteer with NCF
  • Written hundreds of articles to help people use technology more effectively;
    • Ottawa PC Users' Group newsletter
    • GlassWire Cybersecurity News
    • SANS's OUCH! newsletter
    • PC Magazine's User to user column
  • I have given presentations on topics such as computer security, wireless networking, safe social networking, buying a computer, troubleshooting, Internet connectivity, digital photo editing, and more, including:
  • I have been recognized for my volunteer activities
    • Ottawa Mayor’s City Builder Award for presentations given through the Ottawa Public Library
    • Ontario Volunteer Service Award for over 30 years of volunteering with the Ottawa PC Users’ Group
    • Awarded fifteen times as a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional in recognition for volunteer activities
