NCF For the month of April 2006. Income for the month of April was $22,336 which was $33 shy of the monthly target of $22,269. Expenses are expected to be slightly high for the month reflecting the purchase of NCF's own backup system. This is very timely as we have come to the end our one year grace period for backup's with Carleton. We also received the invoice for the Audit from KPMG. May will also be high with an invoice for insurance expected. Moving expenses will also be incurred in June moving that month higher. A number of significant items this month, the most important that we have been given our eviction notice for our office in rm 402 Dunton tower. The hunt is underway for new space although nothing is yet close. We are to be out of 402 by June 15th. Apart from the bad timing, this could be a great opportunity for the NCF to finally find some decent space for the staff, volunteers and members. Reaching 402 Dunton is a real challenge for many members as it is hidden in the centre of Carleton campus with very difficult parking. A more accessable and potentially visable space could breath new life into the NCF. Still its a real challenge for us in the short term. Suggestions regarding space are welcome. May/June is also expected to be extra busy as 10 digit dialing comes into force June 17th. We are planning to communicate with announcements, support pages and MOMs to help as many be updated as possible before the cutover date although we still need to be ready to handle the flood of calls June 17th. Unfortunate timing for a move. As expected the membership inquiries and new DSL subscriptions is slowing as the fine weather arrives. A brainstormming session is being organised by the Board for June 10th regarding future opportunities for the NCF. One that has come to light recently involves wifi, Nortel and Intel. I will tell you more about it at the upcoming Board meeting. With the end of School term we have lost a number of volunteers and are in the process of rebuilding a team. A number of new volunteers look promising and in general the office is running well. A busy and challenging time ahead. john
