REPORT 2002 Nominations Committee Sandy Campbell, Chair Feb. 19, 2002 The committee has fulfilled the mandate given it by the Board. Our colleague Cathy Wenuk has, of course, already been nominated and she will be joined by five other well-qualified candidates. All of them have been 'vetted' by the committee and will be nominated by Sandy Campbell and seconded by Chris Cope. We ask the Board to recommend to members the following as candidates, all of whom would be able to make a solid contribution as members of the Board of Directors. Cathy Wenuk ep584 Mary Anne Dugmore er983 Don Francis ba990 Andrea Holland es170 Denis Wall er075 Michael Williamson cm324 MARY ANNE DUGMORE (er983) Mary Anne Dugmore is currently Project Manager with the Ottawa Carleton School Board, where for 20 years, she has been deeply involved in educational support and technology. She has also worked for the federal government and in private industry. DON FRANCIS (ba990) Don Francis was for 13 years a professor in the English Department of Algonquin College, President of the Faculty Association, and Department Head of the 30-member faculty of English. He was elected to six consecutive terms as a trustee of the Ottawa Board of Education, where he was involved in dealing with curriculum initiatives, school choices, and negotiating major collective agreements. He and his wife established The Irlen Centre which has successfully helped many hundreds of people overcome reading problems. He is also a Wellness Consultant, and in 1998 graduated from the Mediation Course offered by the Faculty of Law at the University of Windsor. He has been a member of NCF from its earliest days. ANDREA HOLLAND (es170) Andrea Holland is Principal Sales Consultant with Oracle Corporation in Ottawa and worked for other companies in the computer field before joining Oracle in 1994. She has been a volunteer member of several organizations, including a highschool technology board and a web charity organization. She holds a B.A., Social Sciences in Economics from Carleton University. In addition to expertise in Oracle applications, she is a Microsoft Certified Professional. DR. DENIS WALL (er075) Denis Wall operates D. Wall Research Group in Ottawa, acting as consultant to governments and other organizations across Canada. He holds a Ph.D in intercultural education from the University of Alberta, along with an M.Ed. degree and teacher cetification. He specializes in policy development and analysis, program evaluation and strategic planning in formal and non-formal contexts. He has worked in South Africa with the Commonwealth of Learning, has done research on working and learning conditions for major Canadian teacher organizations; research on aboriginal and minority education issues; and has done sessional teaching at the University level. Since 1987 he has been an Adjunct Researcher, Canadian Circumpolar Institute, and a member of the Canadian Association of International Development Consultants, Ottawa (2000/1). He is Vice-Chair of Ottawa's Canterbury High School Council and Member, "Action Canterbury", the strategic planning sub-committee of the School Council, Canterbury High School. 2001/2. MICHAEL WILLIAMSON (cm324) Michael Williamson is currently Special Advisor on Learning Communities, HRDC. He has also been Acting Director, Officer of Learning Technologies; Manager Program Development (Community Learning Networks and Learning Technologies in the Workplace. Prior to joing HRDC, he was Coordinator of Network Development, National Library of Canada. He has a wide range of experience dealing with big-budget projects, with a strong focus on community, e.g. started literacy and writing workshops in poor and ethnic communities in Toronto. Academic credentials include Master of Information Science (M.L.S.), University of British Columbia; B.A. Honours English, Victoria College, University of Toronto. Continuing education includes Managing the Media, Government of Canada, 2000; Negotiation Skills/Presentation Skills, Algonquin College, 1998; Data Communications, University of Ottawa, 1995; Project Management, Algonquin College, 1996; Internet-Design and Development, Harvard University, 1997; Financial Management, Government of Canada, 1994; Internet Basics and the Development of Search Engines, Algonquin College, 1991. When time allows, we shall try to file a further report with details on the criteria, methodology, etc. of this search for candidates. Such a document would be useful as a starting point for discussion by the Board on how to refine and improve the process of the Board 'providing for succession.'
