In November 1999, the Seniors courses at the Alex Dayton Senior(AD) and Good Companions(GC) Centres were completed. The Basic Windows 95/98 and Internet segments were each eight week - one hour sessions. An extra session was held the week after the courses ended to answer any individual questions about each student's computer. The course format of each session consisted of a 30 minute lecture and 30 minutes on the computer reviewing the material covered. I felt and my helpers agreed that one computer(all that we had) was not sufficient for these courses. There must be hands-on for the students to benefit and this requires 2 to 4 computers depending on the number of students. A maximum of 4 students per computer is what I would suggest. The proof of how well the course format was absorbed is totally dependent on the people who took the course. The impression that we got was that they were generally happy with the course. This was only the second time that this format was used. The other sessions all tell and no hands on. The number of students that started in each course are: Alex Dayton Basic(Win 95/98) - 15, Internet - 13 Good Companions Basic(Win 95/98) - 16, Internet - 8 I gave out about 10 applications for NCF - I initialed 6 or 7 form filled out by the student that were to be mailed in to FreeNet by the students. I received excellent cooperation from all the people who assisted me to with the courses. The names of the helpers were: Roger Leger do839(GC Basic Windows 95/98) Ray Bertrand ek829(GC Internet) Gerry Laframbroise ek697(AD Basic W95/98) Ernie Trudel ek828(AD Internet). I spoke to each helper with regards to teaching the courses in the new year, but no one seemed interested. I plan to give similar courses(Basic Win 95/98 and Internet) at Good Companions starting in April 2000. No arrangements have been made for the AD Centre.
