MOTION by Julie Chahal, seconded by Yvonne Dionne. I MOVE that we replace the second guideline of the Acceptable Use Policy with the following: --------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Commercial use of the NCF must be non-intrusive. Your NCF account is for personal use, which may include sharing information about your business activities. Common and welcome ways to do this are through your personal home page, your signature file that is appended to messages, and postings in news groups that specifically invite *properly identified* advertisements. The user agreement you signed at registration specifically prohibits direct and broadcast advertising. Information should be sent by e-mail only if it has been requested by the recipient. Material should be placed in newsgroups only in accordance with the guidelines established for that forum. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Purpose: To clarify business use of NCF, as discussed in the draft work plan posted earlier. Background: The full policy guidelines can be found by entering "go policy" and selecting item 5. The current wording of item 2 of the AUP is as follows: -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Your NCF account is for personal not commercial use. The user agreement you signed at registration specifically prohibited broadcast advertising (either commercial news message or unsolicited e-mail messages). Commercial news postings are only allowed in a very few business newsgroups (Your Choice ==> go help-news for more information). Just as you might send a personal letter on paper with your business letterhead, you may include your business name or other information in your signature file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
