Proposal: NATIONAL CAPITAL FREENET LANGUAGE POLICY Whereas the National Capital Freenet is a free computer-based service designed to meet the information needs of people and allow everyone to have the benefit of electronic communications in the National Capital Region; Whereas the National Capital Region population counts a large number of persons using one or both official languages of Canada; Whereas the National Capital Freenet intends to serve as an instrument in the development of mutual respect and cooperation within the networked community of the National Capital Region; The Board of Directors of the National Capital Freenet adopts the following language policy: The National Capital Freenet is a community service which supports integral bilingualism. APPLICATIONS a) All official National Capital Feenet publications, electronic messages and Freenet documents are made available at the same time in both official languages of Canada; this means, for example, providing to its members registration facilities, menus, user guides, training sessions; recruiting information providers in both languages. b) Computer tools, standards used and operations allow and ensure correct use of both official languages . c) The Board of Directors ensures that it has adequate representation of members of the official language minority group. d) Both official languages can be used by members and volunteers to communicate among themselves and with the staff and the Board of Directors. e) Volunteers will be given support and frameworks to ensure that results of their work will be available in both languages according to this language policy. -- Jean-Yves Fortin (ai772@freenet.carleton.ca) Président voir : http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~ai772/ Comité francophone Libertel de la Capitale nationale
