Francophone Committee Report 1. Outreach (avancement) aspect of the committee is a continuing promotion for francophones in our community to use freenet, to volunteer as information providers and translaters, and to establish lines of communication through freenet (libertel). To this end, a booth for freenet-libertel will be on the grounds at the June 20-24 Franco-Ontarien festival at Confederation Park on Elgin Street, manned by members of the French committee. 2. Chairman Fortin, who is a webmaster for the Department of Industry, will be teaching courses in HTML in French for groups wishing to set up web pages on freenet. 3. Grants available through the Federal Government will be made available to remote communities needing help to get their members onto the Internet. Cantley, Quebec, wll be a pilot project for this program. 4. Work is being done to acquaint members of the CGI (common gateway interface) which is a web technology which will allow the processing of web forms. 5. A member of the committee will be working with Ian to expedite the completion of the French language menu, particularly with relation to the adapting of current programs. 6. An attempt is being made to discover how new items get added to the menu so that in future this will be done in both languages simultaneously. Particular attention is to be paid to the newly instituted community calendar for fundraising events - now only available in one language. 7. The committee is still trying to find a way to implement enrolment for francophones, in French. They propose a web facility for this purpose. -- Rosaleen Dickson
