NCF Development Report ======================= By Lisa Donnelly (am412) 12 December 1996 1. Current Projects: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ a) The Microsoft Auction The Auction closed on 14 December at 9:00 PM. Bidding stayed active through out the duration of the auction. We estimated that we would bring in $5,000. Bidding as of Friday was over $4,000. Collection of funds will begin on Monday, 16 December so we hope to bank some of the revenue this month. Press releases were sent out though no formal coverage occurred. Huge thanks are in order for Michael Mason for coordinating this event! b) Monitor Magazine We are now running monthly adds with Monitor Magazine, one of the local computer papers. We are using the space to promote monthly activities in exchange for connection sponsorships. Monitor magazine will also be assisting us with organizing our annual Birthday party. c) Ottawa Computes We are now running monthly adds with Ottawa Computes, a new monthly magazine that is owned by the Computer Paper. We are using the space to promote monthly activities in exchange for connection sponsorships. d) Proposal Status As mentioned last month, several proposals for funding have been sent out during October and November. Jeff Bossert is handling follow-up. We have no concrete news to report...but stay tuned! 2. New Business ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ a) Poster Contest We are just about to launch an on-line contest. We need members to create a NCF poster that we can give to key partners, connection and show case sponsors and other members and institutions. We hope to use the poster as a promotional tool. The winners will be announced at the NCF Birthday Party. b) Rotating Sponsor Logos on the NCF Homepage Roy Hooper, NCF's System Administrator, is working on creating rotating logos on our home page. This is a key part of our recognition package to our Key partners. c) Key Partners to be Recognized at the 1997 Birthday Party The NCF Birthday Party is schedule for Wednesday, 5 February 1997. During the proceedings we plan to honour existing and new key partners. New additions are Dantek Computers, Netscape Communications Corporation and Ingenia Corporation. For more details on the Party see the December Operations Report. d) Preparation Begins in January for the Great On-line Auction The Development team will begin meeting in January to start work for the April 1997 Great On-line Auction. 3. Administrative ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ a) New Connection Sponsor Database Thanks to Andre Ouellette, we now have a new, detailed, database in Excel. This should assist in short and long term accuracy in handling pitches and renewals of annual sponsorships. b) Development Committee Update The last meeting for this year took place on November 26. New and old projects were reviewed and we agreed to re-convene in January to work on the Auction. -- ** Lisa K.
