NOTICE OF MOTION At the July 16 meeting, I intend to make the following motions: MOTION: That the existing policy on FTP and binary file transfers be rescinded. MOTION That NCF operational staff be directed to recommend a policy on necessary limits to account resource usage that would be more appropriate for the existing and expected future NCF system. BACKGROUND The existing policy was written at a time when NCF system resources were more limited than today, and when NCF was closely tied to the FreePort software. Given our 1996 strategy to move to a WWW format, the limitations of this policy unnecessarily restrict accomplishing our mission and strategy. NCF system resources are still not unlimited, but mapping those system limitations onto individual account limitations needs to be more flexible and practical. Previous attempts to write a policy on Binaries evolved through discussion to the point where Board members questioned the need for this policy. Thus, I recommend we rescind the existing policy and ask the people most involved with making the system work to recommend what limitations make sense. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Richard P.
