Report on the Telecommunites '95 Annual General Meeting S. Toy (aa102) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is my brief report on the Telecommunities '95 Annual General Meeting as the voting delegate representing the National Capital FreeNet. It was a pleasure to serve the NCF during my holidays while in Victoria. 1. TC home page = http://www.freenet.mb.ca/tc/index.html Most of this will be available here. 2. Membership Fees There was consensus that TC rely on voluntary donations from it's membership. One suggestion was a donation of 0.5% of revenues be established. The TC board will discuss the actual amount. 9. Motion to create a "clearinghouse" called the Canadian Community Networks Design Centre (CCNDC). NCF vote: for Motion: carried This was a proposal by Garth Graham and will be lead by Garth. 10. The next conference will be held in Edmonton. Suggested "tracks" are: - New FreeNet - Existing FreeNet - Organization and volunteers - Technical To be included are: trade show, and public seminar. 11. Reports: NPTN: It was suggested that organizations using the word "freenet" or variations of it, change it to something like community network just in case of a law suite from NPTN. Charitable Status: It was suggested that a "foundation" be formed with charitable status who will receive money and then in turn dish it out to local Freenets. No FreeNet should apply or overturn the current decision. Instead we should let TC arrange everything. This way there will be consistancy and better status for all when it comes to grants etc. -- Stephen E.
