The Motion: "Moved that Personalized IDs (PIDs) be made available as part of NCF's Donor Recognition Program in connection with contributions of volunteer work as well as financial donations." Carried - see minutes of Board meeting of 17 Oct., 1995 Director of Development's Report (October 17, 1995 attachment) Personalized IDs - Request for Approval Revised Summary =============== The Board of Directors is being asked to approve a motion allowing the implementation of Personalized IDs (PIDs) on NCF as a Donor Recognition Tool further to the recommendation of the Director of Development and the Development Committee. The purpose of this Revised Summary is to highlight some of the key points made in last month's presentation and to provide more background on the operational issues involved in implementation. Highlights ---------- * PIDs will bring in $7,000 per month, primarily from new registrants - $84,000 per year in new funds * the effectiveness of PIDs as a donor incentive has been demonstrated on the Toronto FreeNet and other systems * PIDs will be offered to new registrants as an incentive to make a donation of $100 or more. PIDs will also be offered to current members through a special campaign devised by NCF's Development Office. PIDs will not be offered retroactively for past donations * PIDs will become a permanent feature of NCF's Donor Recognition Program and future donor drives. * PIDs can be used as a reward for volunteering, strengthening the view that Volunteers are Donors * PIDs can be used to honour key contributors and special patrons Cost-Benefit Summary -------------------- Implementation requires programming estimated at a cost of one full week of uninterrupted programming time. This will be offset by income estimated at a rate of $7,000 per month (5% of new registrants) as soon as the program is operational. The cost-benefit return of implementing PIDs is significantly better than that of The Great FreeNet Online Auction - the auction required several weeks of programming and has raised only $30,000 to date. Recent Technical Input ---------------------- It has been pointed out that implementing PIDs will be easier when NCF goes to the WWW. However, the Development Committee advises of the danger involved in delaying - the attractiveness and hence the revenue potential of PIDs may be reduced over time. Subject to approval of PIDs by the Board, we propose to begin implementation with an interim step based on suggestions by Jim Elder and Matthew Darwin. This involves offering donors a customized e-mail address at first (a mail alias) instead of a full-fledged customized ID. The System Administrator and the Administrative Co-ordinator have been consulted and agree that this will be faster to implement. Under this scheme, customized e-mail addresses would be converted to PIDs when NCF makes the move to the WWW. Our Community. Our FreeNet. Working together.
