Tuesday, November 21, 1995 Director of Development's Report ================================ There are no "Action" items for the Board in this report. Bell Sponsorship Proposal ------------------------- A major sponsorship proposal has been submitted to Bell. It is still making its way through the Bell system. The most positive response to date has been an offer made on Friday November 17th by Worldlinks (Bell's internet subsidiary) to provide funding based on the number of subscribers it receives through NCF. Worldlinks is striking commercial distribution arrangements with retailers to promote and distribute its product & service -- the important distinction is that the administrative burden of distribution would be off-loaded to Bell's subsidiary in NCF's case. I will be seeking input about this from the Executive Committee this week before going any further. December 7th "Coming of Age" Reception -------------------------------------- The reception is being held at Ottawa City Hall in the Rotunda. Mayor Holzman has confirmed her attendance and willingness to say a few words of congratulations on behalf of the City. I have contacted all our Key Partners by phone to confirm their attendance and arranged for Targetted Communications Management to assist with the news media. The Key Partner invitations will be signed by Dave Sutherland. I will be invitating all NCF connection sponsors, NCF donors and RMOC and City of Ottawa Councillors. Rebecca Last is in charge of on-site logistics and is taking care of invitations to the NCF Board, Federal MPs, Provincial MPPs and NCF's 50,000th member. Equipment Donations ------------------- Sponsorship proposals to two corporations to donate a Terminal Server (for the new phone lines) and a Router are in preparation and will be sent this week. SGI is reviewing a proposal submitted last week for the donation of one of their new WEBForce Servers. Mitel has provided a list of the equipment it is donating (several Sun 4/280 servers) and this has been forwarded to John Stewart for comment. Online Funding Drive -------------------- A funding drive is being prepared to begin in December with the implementation of the new Donor Recognition Program outlined to the Board last month. The campaign will be announced on December 7th. Government Grants ----------------- Final reports have been submitted to the RMOC in connection with the Challenge Fund grant ($50,000) and the Economic Development grant ($40,000). I expect the first installment amounting to 90% of the challenge fund grant to be issued this month. The Economic Development grant has already been received. I submitted a number of proposals to the Finance Committee for basing NCF's 1996 application to the RMOC's Economic Development Program. With input from the Committee and advice from Andrew Patrick, an application will be submitted on December 15th. Connection Sponsors ------------------- Professional Engineers Ontario - Ottawa Chapter and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre have come on board as Connection Sponsors. ShowCase Sponsors ----------------- Campaign materials, including a covering letter, program blurb, screen captures and prospect lists, have been prepared to begin soliciting new ShowCase Sponsors from the business community. The campaign will be ongoing with volunteer help in faxing out the proposals and following up by phone. Our Community. Our FreeNet. Working together.
