Documentation Team 1998 ======================= Chair: Pat Drummond (ad995/xx995/Pat) NCF: go doc WWW: www.ncf.ca/freeport/freenet/subs/documentation/menu The team writes and maintains all documents in the FreePlace area. As chair, I mainten documents as Internet services change. In 1998, constant changes in NCF services resulted in the rewriting of most of the main documentation for FreePlace and PPP connections, and some, several times. I did not keep track of the numbers. Most of FreePlace documents are still in ASCII format, while the menus are maintained in parallel with Web pages. (I hope to correct this duplication by converting everything to HTML when I have a large block of time!) We were saddened at the passing of Slawek Chmiel (ai578), who wrote the PPP-Macintosh documents and was on the first Help Desk team. Web Site -------- My time was split somewhat in 1998 setting up the Web Site team with specialists (CGI, CSS, HTML, and French translation), organizing the Web directory structure, creating Web page templates and guides, organizing cross-browser testing. One volunteer converted our menu files to Web pages "on the fly" on the Davin Technical Services server making this information "look" as good as the rest. I left the team in the fall with the work more or less done and a great team in place. Main documented changes ----------------------- An "UPDATE" summary was created in FreePlace to list all the changes to NCF Internet services in date order. Feb/98: New modem phone line at Mitel 271-9768 (48x28.8 kbps) accessible only at night 6 pm to 8 am and all day on weekends. Operation was slightly differnet from NCF 520-XXXX lines during 1998. Apr/98: PPP connections no longer need to log on or use a script. You force a text connections by typing the ENTER or RETURN key. Oct/98: Full Internet access is available to members on all modem lines. Term FreeWeb dropped. Oct/98: 1 hour sessions and 2 hour time limits on all lines including the "Express" line.
