Annual Report - Complaints Resolution Committee - 1997 ------------------------------------------------------ CRC Members: Simon Coakeley - Chair Natalie Munro - Board Liasion Donna Shaw - Gotta Love Her The Complaints Resolution Committee (CRC) was created by the Board of Directors in 1995 to administer infractions of the Membership Agreement (MA) and the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The CRC is empowered to disable accounts for repeated infractions. In past years, a great deal of CRC time was spent in dealing with IRC related complaints. In 1997, the CRC recommended to the Board that the NCF IRC newsgroup become moderated. Since this newsgroup has been moderated, the number of complaints generated by IRC related matters has dropped by better than 80%. Also in 1997, the CRC noted that unsolicited email (spam) was becoming a problem in terms of volume. The creation of the "go spam" area and the recruitment of some very talented volunteers (Andrew Nellis, Richard Bethell, Jennifer Witham, NCF postmaster) has enabled our members to become involved in helping to curb incoming sources of spam. Members have been very supportive of our anti-spam team, and helped make this endeavour a success. We've had a few problems in 1997, but in consideration of the total number of NCF members, our problems have been very minor. NCF members are good people, and an example for any other online community.
