1) What skills will you contribute to the National Capital FreeNet (NCF) board? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------- Andrew Nellis ------------- As the coordinator of the NCF Net Abuse Response Team and an internationally recognized anti-spam activist, my specialized knowledge will be an asset when determining net abuse tactics and policies. ------------ Miranda Gray ------------ I have previous experience as a board member and as an NCF volunteer. I have the depth of experience to help NCF make the critical decisions of the next three years. --------------- Dave Sutherland --------------- [The candidate did not provide any information] ------------ John Stewart ------------ My technical skills and previous experience on the board of directors of Hostelling International Canada - Ontario East and the executive of the Ottawa Y Canoe Camping Club. ------------ Robert Blane ------------ My past experience with Volunteer Boards and Committees. I have gained these skills: Brainstorming, Robert Rules of Order, Negotiating, Gate Keeping, Records Management Law and Practice, and Understanding of Administrative Systems and Process. ------------- Jessica Cohen ------------- As a candidate for re-election, I will bring understanding of NCF as it has evolved over the years, commitment to and belief in NCF's mission statement, honesty, humour, reliability, and enthusiasm. 2) What do you think are the most important functions of the NCF for its members? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- Andrew Nellis ------------- Before anything else can be considered, NCF must first, by necessity, protect its members and limited resources against being stolen from by greedy net criminals -- the spammers. ------------ Miranda Gray ------------ IMO, NCF has three overwhelming roles -- an online home for members, an access point for those without other options and a convenient place to start the search for local online information. --------------- Dave Sutherland --------------- [The candidate did not provide any information] ------------ John Stewart ------------ Providing a sense of community that they won't find with a commercial ISP. ------------ Robert Blane ------------ E-mail, Searching the Web for Information & Services by PPP, Ease of Access by dial up or Public Access Terminals, Education on understanding and uses for the World Wide Web. ------------- Jessica Cohen ------------- Community and communication. Specifically, to provide a free and open forum for all members of the community to share information, both within the community, and with the world at large. 3) Why do you want to be an NCF director? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- Andrew Nellis ------------- The board must take a proactive stance against spam. This issue has changed so rapidly that only those with direct and immediate experience can form effective policies against such abuse. ------------ Miranda Gray ------------ I feel that I have a choice of running for the board or abandoning the organization. I feel NCF has badly strayed from its purpose as a community network. --------------- Dave Sutherland --------------- [The candidate did not provide any information.] ------------ John Stewart ------------ To help guide the evolution of community networking in the National Capital Region. ------------ Robert Blane ------------ I would like to further my involvement in the NCF from office support to helping make decisions that will make NCF vital to it's members and the Ottawa region. ------------- Jessica Cohen ------------- NCF plays an important role in our community. I would continue to work towards keeping NCF relevant to the community, and indeed , to seeing that relevance grow.
