Operations Report - Volunteer Coordination Submitted by: aa966 Members: Natalie Munro aa966 Andre Ouellette bf766 Andrew Allan ct246 Contact: xx088 Go Command: go helpers The Volunteer Coordinating group exists to help committees, task forces, etc. find skilled volunteers to meet the needs of system in operation, special projects and growth. Procedures: As positions for volunteer involvement arise, the database is searched for a person best suited to the task description. This person is reviewed by a volunteer coordinator before placement. The Volunteer Coordination Task Force has faced many challenges over the course of 1995. In January, the Volunteer Database became unreliable, and remained so for the better part of three months. Mike Jankulak, recruited in April for the purpose of fixing the database, has remained with NCF, and has continued to donate his considerable talents to the operation of the system. In February, Natalie Munro put forth a plan to select one volunteer every month to be honoured publically. The board has since adopted this idea, which has helped make great strides in properly appreciating our volunteers. One volunteer will be chosen for special honours as the Volunteer of the Year for 1995. 1995 heralded the creation of several new areas of volunteer involvement including the Complaints Committee, Speakers Task Force, the Translation Task Force, the Time Limit Task Force and the Minute Takers Task Force. Currently, all these areas are well in hand, and expected to carry on into 1996. Of special note are the short term volunteers for the National Capital Air Show, who participated on behalf of NCF. This group, headed by Andre Ouellette, was a raging success in 1995, and will be back again in 1996. A bottleneck in the hardware/software area became apparent when the past chair, Miranda Grey, indicated last May that potential technical volunteers needed to be assessed before being assigned. Some voids in participation were unexpectedly created by volunteers being unable to continue their efforts, or moving on to other duties. Of particular note are leadership of the help desk and IP administration, both very difficult positions to recruit for, and as a result, these areas are still in flux. In closing, the 1996 Volunteer Coordinating Strategy will address all aspects of the volunteer program including a well-structured training strategy, planning for growth, direct recruitment, increased funding for appreciation and an increased emphasis on motivation. z
