============================================== Candidate: Jessica Cohen ============================================== Flergen Shmergen ---------------------------- Jessica Cohen is a 22 year old Carleton University student, currently enrolled in a Mathematics program. Her academic interests include math, computer science, psychology, english (she loves to read), physics. Her non-classwork academic interests include learning to write (and writing) impeccable HTML (hypertext language for the World Wide Web), and volunteering on FreeNet. She is also the head of many a scientific committee, more info on this is available in a seperate menu item. Work without play is pointless, and Jessica loves to spend her spare time reading books (often recommended to her by fellow netters), reading both outside usenet and the NCF SIGS, looking around the World Wide Web for more ideas for her Home Page and the soon-to-be-opened FreeNet Boutique page, listening to music, and playing bridge (with fellow freenetters). As you have already seen if you have ever read any posts, or otherwise conversed with Jessica she is possessed of a quirky sense of humour, which she fully believes is one of her assets. She has also been known to be serious, reliable, honest, and enthusiastic, which those around her see to be even greater assets. You can visit Jessica's Web Page either from freenet, or outside of freenet. To visit from Freenet: 1. Type "go www" 2. Choose #6 (the list of interesting places to go) 3. Choose #4 (the Carleton U web) 4. Click on the "Faculty of Engineering" 5. Click on the "Carleton Personal Web Page Index" 6. Click on "undergraduate students found here" 7. Click on "Cohen, Jessica (Beable)" To visit from outside of freenet: set your web pointers to "http://www.eng.carleton.ca/chat/~jcohen" Each game of chess, means there's one less variation left to be played. ---------------------------- This info will be posted soon. How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? ---------------------------- About Jessica's Involvement With NCF ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have had an NCF account since before NCf officially opened (about 2 years 3 months). During this time I have: -- started up the FreeNet Boutique ("go shopping" for cool FreeNet souvenirs) -- volunteered (and attended) the NCF Picnic, and both Birthday Parties, -- am an Office Volunteer -- donated a tye-dyed FreeNet tshirt for the NCf auction, and harangued^H^H^H asked various people to autograph it for the winner. -- been to every General meeting and Board meeting since September -- am on the fundraising committee -- helped revive the NCf Bridge SIG (ok so we took it over) -- suggester of the "Go study" option on FreeNet (try it out!) -- am a frequent lurker and participator in the many many NCF SIGS, --can often be found in the FreeNet IRc as "Ceara" --charter member of alt.my.head.hurts (and keepr of it's FAQ) --REALLY charter member of alt.fun.with.luc (I was there before Luc Theriault, for whom the group is named (ac639) was! Email me if you want to know more about a.f.w.l or why I was there before Luc was) -- provider of much entertainment in most of the aformentioned NCF SIGS -- provider of much intelligent thought in some of the aforementioned NCF SIGS (intelligent thought is more likely in the "serious" groups ) -- I read all the ncf.sub.* and ncf.status.* and ncf.board-* groups reguarly and have done so since this summer. As you can see my involvment with NCF is vast and varied. Vote Jessica, she knows these menus better than anyone! If you doubt, ask me where I can find (insert menu name) in the candidate forum area. Better yet ask everyone and see who can answer it quickly and correctly. It's a campaign menu, Jim, but not as we know it ---------------------------- Jessica's View on Time Limits =================================== As we all know, time limits are a heavy issue in this election, with very strong arguments (and arguers) on both sides. In recent conversations and studies with the most respected scientists on the net, a method is going to become available for use in the public domain, whereby time will be expanded and the rotation and orbit of Earth will be changed to redefine time itself. Thus, your 2 hrs will actually be worth 24 hrs. Further study implies that this effect , tentatively named as the "Abian" effect (*1) , will also eventually be appliable outside of FreeNet . In the interim, you will be able to login to FreeNet for 24 hrs, while in fact taking up only 2 hrs of what is widely considerred to be measurable time. The time limits could also be changed to a 1 hr daily limit, which would still leave people with the oppurtunity to use the net for 9.25 hours; a reasonable restriction by anybody's standards. How Does This Time Thing Work? ============================== The original seed for this research, which has been carried out by the Beable Institute of Scientific Research, was found in the writings of the great mathmetician , Alexander Abian, who wrote "Time has inertia. Equivalence in time and mass. 1/t + 1/log M = 1 (ABIAN).". This led Beable researchers to consider just what would happen if mass and inertia could be converted into time. The mathematics and physics of this venture are quite complicated, but suffice to say, by converting mass to time, and changing the inertial dampers of the earth's core, we have chagned the earth's speed of rotation, and thus the length of the day. We have also sufficiently altered the tilt and orbit of the Earth (as suggested by Abian as being necessary in his writings) to minimize the enviromental impact of this change. What I propose is to make NCF a beta tester of this novel time-saving program, and put NCF on the scientific community map and history books, thus giving NCF the international recognition it desrves, creating a precedence for the government to give us hefty research grants, and solve the NCF time limit issue, having solved any problems people might have either for or against time limits in one fell swoop. Vote Jessica, and time itself will be your mentor. *1 Alexander Abian, can be found writing in various newsgroups in the sci.* hierarchy. The idea of using time in such a fashion came after reading A. Abian's insightful signature: "Time has inertia. Equivalence in time and mass. 1/t + 1/log M = 1 (Abian). Alter the Earth's orbit and tilt, stop epidemics of Aids, cholera, etc. Venus must be given an Earth-like orbit to become a born-again Earth" If you have any questions about the time-limits research feel free to email me and ask, or post in the candidate forum and ask. an eight clubs opening bid? Double! ---------------------------- What is ncf.general about? Those of us expieremced on ncf know that there is no real answer. ncf.general is a general discussion group in which anything and everything can be discussed. But.. what about the new user? You are showing someone all the best that ncf has to offer, and they ask you what people talk about in ncf.general. This is where this proposal comes in; I wish to setup a weekly theme for ncf.general. This theme would be chosen by regular posters in ncf.general and would be the theme for the week. Naturally posts on other subjects would be allowed and encouraged, but this gives a centre point for the thousands of people who want to know just what ncf.general is all about. I have heard the toasters singing ---------------------------- Jessica's List of Campaign Promises ================================= During my campaign, I will answer all questions to which are directed at me (by name) posted to any of the agm95 newsgroups, as well as any emailed question. All questions directed at me, no matter how trivial will be answered. All general questions will be answered as far as relevance and lack of redundacy allows. If elected: (warning a few non-kooky promises are mixed into this) 1. I will continue to volunteer with NCF, I am currently running the FreeNet Boutique ("go shopping"), and am on the Helpdesk team, and the fundraising committee, as well as being a FreeNet Office Volunteer. 2. I will continue to take part in the NCF community with my usual seriousness and decorum. 3. Everyone who supports my campaign and wishes will be given a position on my star ship in the Stark Trek Sig. The only prerequisite for this is that you must be both a Star Trek fan and a Princess Bride fan, for my ship is the pirate ship Revenge, that flies free as the most creative anachronism throught the Sig-sector. 4. Everyone will be invited to a victory party held in the NCF at 12:00 AM, March 13, 1995. Although pre-emptive this party will be a great celebration regardless and free virtual pizza and beer (for those of virtual age) will be had by all. 5. I will give everyone who wants a copy of my cool "Marvin the Martian blowing up the Earth" logout logo. 6. I will attend all Board meetings unless I have a valid excuse (ie illness etc) to miss a meeting. I have attended every Board meeting as a non-Board member since September, a record higher than many of the current Board members have had for the entire year. 7. I will bring all issues in my platform up at the next Board meetings, so that the members of FreeNet can benefit from my innovative campaign right from the start. (ie my scientific research on time-limits) 8. I will allow FreeNet to benefit from my other affiliations, and will always keep all research for the Beable Institute of Scientific Research available for FreeNet use. 9. I will make the NCF public terminals more cheerful and enviromentally friendly by painting them green. 10. I will refrain from telling people just where I get my ideas, on less they ask me directly. 11. Most seriously and most importantly, I have been, am, and will remain someone members can approach if they want their ideas heard by the Board. Each to each, I do not think they will sing for me. ---------------------------- Please Help With my Campaign by adding "Vote Jessica" to your signature file. This does not mean you have to decide who you are going to vote for right now. Example: -- Vote Jessica! I am a signature virus. please copy me to your signature. Any permutation of this would be useful and appreciated. As I have said, I would like everyone to add my name to your signature even if you are not going to vote for me.
