PAST EVENTS

VenClimb2

There were 9 participants.  It went well, will likely be repeated.  Fantastic weather.  1st Glen Cairn Venturers were among the participants and were quite pleased.

Work Weekend

Tim was not present.  Others reported that lots of high quality projects were completed.  The extra jobs were almost all signed off.  Many enjoyed the Sens game and excellent meals.

White water pre-training

There were 72 participants on the water, more for the indoor session (great job, Mike Miller).  All reports were positive. Thanks to the advisor trainers, Alan Clapp, Laurel Rosene, Ray Renton, Jim Smith, Bill Bowman & Mike Miller.  A special thanks to the younger trainers – Jessica Gale, Adam Taylor & Mark Taylor.

EVENTS TO COME

Whitewater 1

80 participants; all numbers and money issues resolved.

Whitewater 2

56 participants for canoeing, 8 participants for kayaking; all issues resolved.

Rivers Day  - June 10 (Heritage Rivers & Ottawa Riverkeeper)

Jim & Jim Montgomery reporting for Laurel.

20 km paddle from Victoria Island to Petrie Island.  Up to 100 canoes expected, including several voyageur canoes.  Would like one of the voyageur canoes to be scouting people.

Need help with safety boats on the river.  Need Venturer help with parking control.

Contact Laurel Rosene tobeonwater@yahoo.com

RSVP camp

This weekend.  No report.  A show of hands revealed a few groups attending.  Deadline has passed.

RoVent Oct 19-21

Detailed handout provided by Mike Jowett.   More youth involvement this year.

Various changes noted: no cooking on tent platforms, $50 advance fee deposit, strict rule about ammunition for siege – violators to be banned for a minimum of two years.

CCRRT report (Eric Hansen has several hats, so hard to know which he is wearing at any given time)

Couch Rally – Sept 8 weekend.  It’s a go.  Waiting for confirmation from Nepean Tent & Trailer park.

Rover manual needs updating, but no one wants to work on it.

CCRRT will participate in Tamaracouta work weekend.  Eric reports lots of trees at Venturer sub camp.  Advises use of smaller tents and tarps rather than dining shelters.

Joint Council

May camp on the long weekend.  Info just out, must register right away.  Bob says to bring paperwork to camp.

June event will be a semi-formal dance on June 1  - details later.

SSYC  - Phil

Phil just returned from provincial meeting in Cambridge.

A few areas still have no youth reps.

Held meeting outside.  June 5 meeting will be a PARTY.  Bring useless school notes for shredding.  Elections will be held.

Training - Stewart

11 participants at recent Part 1.  Big need to get mentors and have requirements checked off in order to finish & get recognition (woggle).  Still a dozen at meeting wanting Part 1.  Tentatively planned for RoVent weekend.  Bob Doré asked to lead, but awaiting official notification.

Basic canoe & Boat Rescue courses this spring – see training web pages.

Rideau Challenge Journey – Eric for Rod Wilson

Only one group registered – may be cancelled.  Act fast.

Crazy Canuck Adventure Challenge – last Saturday in September

Committee consists of Bill, Ray, Christiaan & Tim.  Still looking for youth to come on the planning committee and work the day.  There is a particular need for committed helpers at the rappel site.

Next Meeting:  June 5th, 2007.  The FIRST Tuesday of the month.
