Report on Activities in the Months of June and July 2005 Financial results: Donations in June and July were $14,347.42 and $14,651.49 respectively which overall was surplus to budget by $1588.91. (forecasts were $14,776 & $12,634) The better than 30% improvement on last years donations reflects the hard work by volunteers and development staff to better communicate a fair share approach to donations. The month of Aug looks to be on track to meeting our target of $14,000 The core expenses (Telecom, salaries and rent) for the month of June and July were on budget at approximately $19,000. A large invoice ($7,000) from Carleton for backup services has been deferred 90 days to preserve NCF's cash balance. Equipment failures during the summer also resulted in unexpected expenses for new drives. The DSL services has also resulted in extra spending. As expected, NCF's cash reserves are critically low due to the slow donation rate during the summer months. I will discuss this further at the Board meeting. Earlier in the summer NCF members suffered through network problems caused in part by Carleton's network upgrade. Carleton has completed their network upgrades although during the past 5 weeks NCF has suffered through it share of hardware problems. Two hard drives were purchased for the raid array to boost its reliability. Additional testing is currently underway to isolate any other faulty equipment. We are now using the trade name NCF Internet in our posters and communications. Posters have been hung in local libraries and new flyers are being printed and distributed. We are starting our fall membership drive through the libraries and universities with a poster and flyer campaign. The telephone system for the NCF office has now been upgraded to provide french and english help for common questions. The new help desk number is 520 5777. Members calling the old help number will be informed of the new help number. DSL service is up and running with a couple of test accounts. The domain is registered and the radius servers are up and running. The DSL modems and filters for testing have been delayed but should be in shortly. I expect the wider trials to begin shortly. Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting. Cheers John
