The "finger" gateway on NCF
===========================

NCF has a tool that uses the "finger" gateway to provide information 
about NCF members.  To display the online members currently using a
text or telnet connection (not PPP), use this URL in a web browser:

        URL:  http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/finger/freenet/

Anyone can use this NCF "finger" gateway to look up your user id on
FreeNet, and display all the information that you have voluntarily 
supplied about yourself in your personal files.  This is the same 
information you see when you use the "lookup" command in the menu 
system:
        Your Choice ==> lookup
		Enter an account ID: aa000

        URL:  http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/finger/freenet/aa000

* replace "aa000" with your own userid
* do NOT use the trailing slash after the userid in this case

To set your public profile so that you can see if you have unread
mail:

	Your Choice ==> go profile-public
	Let others see the last time you logged in or read your mail?
	> 8 Yes

If you have not supplied any public information, then the NCF "finger"
gateway displays just your name to someone "fingering" your NCF userid.

From your Internet browser, select the URL above and the status of your
mailbox and all your other public information will be displayed like this:
